CLOSURE OF SCHOOLS DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER

Decisions respecting the closure of schools will be made by the Superintendent /CEO after consultation with the RRVSD Transportation department, RCMP, Highways department, other school divisions, and consideration of the following criteria:        
1) visibility   

2) extremely cold temperatures (-35 or lower) -  We consult the Environment Canada Website, and use the temperature as reported from The Winnipeg International Airport to help us make our decision respecting the closure of schools. 3) wind-chill factor (-45 or lower) - For more information on Wind Chill, please visit the Environment Canada Website at http://www.msc.ec.gc.ca/education/windchill/index_e.cfm

The decision to close schools shall be made prior to 6:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m. Media announcements shall be made by 7:00 a.m. and 2:30 p.m..

The paramount consideration is the safety of students.


The announcements shall be through the medium of the following radio and television stations:
CFAM - CJOB - CBC-990 - CKSB - CHSM


If we close due to cold weather or poor road conditions, parents and guardians are asked to keep students at home or make alternative arrangements.


Once students have arrived at the schools, schools will remain open until regular dismissal time. In the event that evening bus routes are cancelled by the Superintendent/CEO because of inclement weather or other emergencies, schools will implement contingency plans to accommodate students.
