The Red River Valley School Division honours the students of Residential Schools, their families, and their communities. Saturday, September 30th is a day for reflection on this dark and tragic legacy all across Canada. This week students have been learning about Indigenous culture, Residential Schools, and the negative impacts of colonization and assimilation on Indigenous Peoples. Students have also been learning about the important role of all Canadian citizens in the process of Reconciliation.
The Red River Valley School Division believes that Every Child Matters and wishes to be an agent for Reconciliation in Treaty 1 territory. We encourage our students, staff, and families to wear orange this Saturday, and to reflect on Reconciliation. Students and staff are also encouraged to wear orange on Friday, Sept. 29 in all of our schools to show we believe that Every Child Matters.
