SafeArrival and School Messenger Parent Information
RRVSD is introducing School Messenger SafeArrival, a new system designed to make reporting student absences easier for families. SafeArrival provides a consistent system for tracking attendance and identifying unexplained absences more efficiently. SafeArrival is connected to PowerSchool, allowing attendance information to be recorded and tracked through our existing student information system. When a student has an unexplained absence, the system will automatically attempt to contact their family until the absence is cleared.
Accessing School Messenger/SafeArrival:
1. Free iOS and Android SchoolMessenger App
Download the free School Messenger app on your smartphone and use the SafeArrival feature.
2. School Messenger Website
Visit go.schoolmessenger.ca and access SafeArrival online.
When setting up SchoolMessenger, you must use the same email address that is associated with your PowerSchool Parent Portal account. If you use a different email address, SchoolMessenger will not recognize your child(ren) and you will not be able to access SafeArrival for them. If you are unsure which email address is connected to your PowerSchool Parent Portal, please contact Ms. Blackmore in the office for assistance.
Reporting Absences:
Please report your child’s absence before the start of the school day. Only full day absences can be recorded with SafeArrival so even if your child is going to be late or only missing the first half of the day, record a full day absence. When the student arrives and checks in at the office, the absence will be revised appropriately. If your child is marked absent following AM or PM attendance and SafeArrival has not received notification, the system will follow regular attendance procedures by sending an automated call, text and/or email to confirm your child’s whereabouts. This follow up is an important part of our student safety procedures.
While calling or emailing Ms. Blackmore will continue to be available, we strongly encourage families to use SafeArrival whenever possible. We understand that new systems take a little time to get used to and appreciate your patience as we introduce SafeArrival.
