Ward 2 Trustee

For as long as I can remember I have been involved with children and education. I have been RRVSD's Ward 2 Trustee since October 2022, and was born and raised on a farm near Whitemouth, MB. I moved to Sanford, MB in 2019 to join my spouse and raise our families. We have 3 daughters, Hannah, Taralyn, and Jessie who are all currently pursuing their post-secondary education at different Universities across Canada.

A love of learning has been rooted in me since birth, and this is why I pursued a career in education. Upon graduating from Whitemouth School in 1989, I attended a combined program at RRCC/U of M to receive my Bachelor of Education Degree in Business Education with a Canadian History Minor. Immediately after graduating in May of 1993, I eagerly accepted my first teaching position at an Adult Ed Facility in

Winnipeg and then began teaching Business Education at a Private Christian High School in Winnipeg in September of that year.

My career has led me to many different locations and opportunities around the province including Roblin, Whitemouth, and 2 public and private schools in Winnipeg, MB over a span of 26 years. I also had the opportunity to share my knowledge by training at Aikins Law in Winnipeg, MB for 5 years obtaining vast legal knowledge while fulfilling my passion for teaching.

Trusteeship was a natural progression for me as serving/helping my community was instilled in me by my Dad who served on Church Council and then was elected to the RM of Whitemouth as a Councillor and Deputy Reeve for many years as well as my Aunt serving as trustee in the Sunrise School Division for decades. I chose to pursue Trusteeship in the RRVSD after moving here because it was a place where I could continue to be involved in education in a different capacity and use my knowledge to help make a difference in the lives of the students in the division. I love having a leadership role in education and as a result continue in my role as a trustee.

Since education is the key to success for everyone, it is vitally important for each student to be challenged, engaged and to discover the love of learning. My personal goal as a trustee is to provide excellence in education, while giving the community a voice, creating/changing policies, acting according to governance and managing an educational budget provided by the government and tax dollars.

My primary goal as School Trustee is to serve and interact with families in our community. I am eager to learn more about Public Education while I fulfill my duties in this role!
